Futures Day 2018

As part of Leonardo’s presence at Farnborough International Airshow 2018, our UK business is proud to sponsor Futures Day on Friday 20 July, engaging young people aged 11-21 in the science of flight and showcasing the exciting and wide-ranging opportunities that engineering offers.

Futures Day is organised by ADS in partnership with the Engineering Development Trust (EDT), Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), Royal Aeronautical Society and Inspiring Futures, and is designed to give groups of young people a chance to see the exciting career opportunities available in the dynamic sectors of aerospace and defence.

Visit Leonardo on Futures Day

At Leonardo, we are passionate about educating young people throughout their academic careers on exciting world of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

Visitors to the Leonardo pavilion will have the opportunity to take a closer look at the impressive array of aircraft and associated sensor technology on display. You will get the chance to meet the people that fly various missions protecting our borders and responding to emergencies around the world.

Meet some of Leonardo’s young engineers who will also be available to talk about the technology they are currently helping develop. Learn about science of flight and how aircraft are designed, and discover what skills you need to become a pilot or engineer.

Leonardo’s pavilion will also feature:

  • Future Selfie – come and take a ‘Future Selfie’ to share with your friends online. See how Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) subjects can enable you to be an engineer, cyber guardian, pilot or astronaut of the future!
  • Eurofighter Virtual Reality (VR) Challenge – our Eurofighter Typhoon is needed for operation, but sensors detect Foreign Object Debris (FOD) in the system. Can you find the FOD and ensure the aircraft is ready for take-off in less than 3 minutes? Using the HTC VIVE Room Scale VR system, move around a virtual Typhoon to locate and remove all aircraft safety devices, and check for any FOD as the time counts down.
