Radar

Leonardo is the European leader in radar technology, with our Centre of Excellence in Edinburgh building upon a 75-year heritage in this area.

We design and manufacture radars for fire control and surveillance that have been bought by government and military customers around the world. These include our Raven ES05 AESA radar equipping Saab’s next-generation Gripen jets, and our family of Seaspray radars exported to several countries including the USA.

Leonardo is also part of Team Tempest (alongside the RAF Rapid Capability Office, BAE Systems, Rolls-Royce and MBDA) which is developing a Next Generation Combat Air System capable of operating in the 2040+ environment. As part of the ongoing Future Combat Air System Technology Initiative (FCAS TI) programme, Leonardo will be developing the Sensor and Communications Systems technology for the next generation aircraft.
