October

At the start of October, Leonardo and its EuroDASS partners were delighted to present the next generation Defensive Aids Sub-System “Praetorian Evo” to the Eurofighter Typhoon user community. The Praetorian DASS assists the Typhoon with evaluation, detection and countermeasures against threats using radio frequency and infrared technology. Following this announcement, Eurofighter World’s article about ’Digital Stealth’ explored the importance of mission data to allow aircrews to evade threats and prevent engagement in a congested and constantly evolving battlespace.

Our careers fair tour kicked off in October, where we visited schools, colleges and universities across the UK, speaking to students about our early career options. It was great meeting so many engaged young people around the country and letting them know about the great roles we offer. Applications are still open to our 2020 early careers programmes.

October also got the ball rolling for awards season, with several Leonardo teams and individuals nominated and shortlisted for some significant industry awards. Leonardo was shortlisted in the Engineering Ambassador category at the British Engineering Excellence Awards for the, while Dr Carol Marsh was shortlisted at this year’s Women in Defence Awards. Later in the month, at the prestigious 2019 IET (Institution of Engineering and Technology) Awards, Harry Sherwood was a finalist for the Technician Award and Thomas Sutherland, Hardware Engineer at our Edinburgh site, was named Apprentice of the Year. A huge congratulations to Thomas and all of those nominated.
